An exciting career opportunity exists for an experienced Test and Evaluation Engineer supporting a team of engineers and technicians who maintain and operate the largest wind tunnel in the world.
This opportunity is being offered by National Aerospace Solutions, LLC, the team selected by the U.S. Air Force to conduct Test Operations and Sustainment at the Arnold Engineering Development Complex (AEDC), National Full-scale Aerodynamics Complex (NFAC) at Moffett Field, CA. The NFAC provides the United States with the capability of performing ground-based aerodynamic and acoustic experiments at speeds from static to nearly 350 mph on large-scale and full-scale aerospace vehicles and components.  This complex includes a 40- by 80-foot wind tunnel and an 80- by 120-foot wind tunnel.
AEDC’s mission is to conduct developmental test and evaluation for the Nation through modeling, simulation, ground test and flight test.  Execution of the mission requires a large team of highly qualified and dedicated professionals from multiple technical disciplines to effectively accomplish the objectives of our test customers.

Job Summary:
Perform the role of Test Director to lead teams in planning and conducting experimental test programs at the National Full-Scale Aerodynamics Complex, the world’s largest wind tunnel.  Oversee all aspects of a test, from detailed planning through test execution and reporting.  Ensure test plan aligns with the Air Force’s expectations for technical excellence and experimental rigor. The successful candidate will evaluate, select, and apply standard engineering methods, techniques, procedures and criteria, using independent judgment in planning and conducting wind tunnel aerodynamic experiments.  Perform assignments, which have clear and specific objectives and require the investigation of a limited number of variables for test and evaluation engineering.
Job Duties:
  • Acts as the primary point of contact with customers to determine test requirements, the division of responsibilities, schedule milestones, and data reduction and instrumentation needs.
  • Manage test planning activities and develop and maintain realistic project schedules and budgets.
  • Develop test plans, review customer documentation, determine test and analysis objectives and deliverables, and conduct pretest reviews.
  • Perform data analysis, including associated code development, to ensure data quality.
  • Perform pre‐test uncertainty analysis to inform improved analysis and instrumentation plans. All aspects of test conduct during installation and testing will be under the direction of the Test Director.
  • Assume a leadership role in acceptance of the test article, coordination of test team activities, safe execution of all test phases, and data quality assurance.
  • Perform risk assessments and document in a Hazard Analysis. Develop risk mitigation plans to manage risk to personnel, the facility, technical objectives, and the environment. 
  • Develop and review stress analysis on systems under test to ensure they conform to required safety factors.
  • Evaluate opportunities for capability upgrades and support strategic asset planning to maintain or improve current capabilities.
  • An emphasis on continual professional development is expected. Limited travel may be required.
  • It is a condition of employment to wear company issued PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) in accordance with supervisory direction and company policy.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science degree in aerospace or mechanical engineering from an accredited engineering program and 3 to 5 years progressive and relevant engineering experience, or a Master of Science degree in aerospace, mechanical engineering from an accredited engineering program and 2 to 3 years progressive and relevant engineering experience.
  • US Citizenship required.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in experimental design and implementation in a team environment.
  • Solid aerodynamics background.
  • Master of Science degree or post-graduate coursework in aerospace or mechanical engineering from an accredited engineering program.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communications skills, and confidence leading large multi-disciplined test teams.
  • Ability to develop a fundamental understanding of a wide variety of customer research requirements in order to guide the test approach.
