National Aerospace Solutions (NAS), LLC is the team selected by the U.S. Air Force (USAF) to conduct Test and Operations Sustainment activities at the Arnold Engineering Development Complex (AEDC), Arnold Air Force Base, in Tullahoma, Tennessee. NAS is committed to partnering with the Air Force and the workforce at AEDC to drive the change necessary to ensure the long-term viability of the Complex while ensuring mission success: no impact to customers, no loss in data quality, and no reduction in productive test time – ultimately securing AEDC's long-term future and world-class superiority in aerospace and flight testing.

We are looking for Mechanical Engineering Technologists who want to work in a multi-disciplinary team that plays a key role in supporting national defense. The engineering technologists hired into this role are responsible for supporting the engineering teams in operating the electro-mechanical systems that provide conditions simulating operational environments and enable ground testing of air and space vehicles.   The people in these positions will help create and implement necessary documents to communicate within and across teams with guidance from the engineering and supervisory staff.

Engineering technologists provide assistance to the engineering teams for safe and reliable operation of test and plant equipment and systems. This work involves practical application of basic engineering principles of mechanics, thermodynamics, heat transfer, hydraulics, pneumatics, and materials of construction. These principles are applied through the use of engineering tools including generating and updating risk assessments, work instructions, and configurations documentation and other engineering documentation.

As part of a multi-disciplinary team, engineering technologists interface with other teams across the complex including controls, instrumentation, design, facility data analysis, and modeling and simulation engineers to ensure reliable operation and ability to meet future test needs.

Engineering technologists will support systems engineering, plant operations and test operations engineering process.  The jobs support system engineer responsibilities as part of a cadre of mechanical and electrical engineers whose job it is to oversee installation, sustainment, and troubleshooting of major equipment and systems such as large motors, compressors, heaters, dryers,  refrigeration, filtering, thermal conditioning, piping, valving, and more that are needed to reliably provide ground testing.

Basic Qualifications:
  • BS in engineering technology degree from an accredited college or university plus a minimum of 3 years of progressive and relevant experience or any equivalent combination of applicable education and progressive and relevant experience totaling 7 years.
  • Current United States Citizenship is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Basic technical knowledge of mechanical engineering systems, applications of engineering methods and construction methods and materials, and application of computer aided engineering (CAE)/computer aided design (CAD) tools to engineering problems.
  • Experience in operations and maintenance of electro mechanical equipment and system
  • Experience in engineering design, layout, drawings, industrial processes control and related disciplines
  • Developmental experience such as practical work experience in design engineering or other relevant types of engineering such as systems startup, field engineering, or plant operation in large industrial plants, utilities, process plants or other engineering/construction firms.
  • Organized, analytical, and ready to learn and interface with other engineering disciplines
  • Must be able to communicate clearly and use various methods of communication.
  • Active Secret Security Clearance.

This opportunity is being offered by National Aerospace Solutions, the team selected by the U.S. Air Force to conduct Test and Operations Sustainment at the Arnold Engineering Development Complex (AEDC), Arnold Air Force Base, Tennessee. AEDC operates more than 55 aerodynamic and propulsion wind tunnels, rocket and turbine engine test cells, space environmental chambers, arc heaters, ballistic ranges and other specialized units located in six states. Many of the complex's test units have capabilities unmatched elsewhere in the United States; some are unique in the world. AEDC is one of three installations which are part of the Air Force Test Center (AFTC), one of six subordinate commands of the Air Force Materiel Command organization and an important national resource.

AEDC’s mission is to conduct developmental test and evaluation for the Nation through modeling, simulation, ground, and flight test.  Execution of the mission requires a large team of highly qualified and dedicated professionals from multiple technical disciplines to effectively accomplish the objectives of our test customers.
