Introductory Description: Work will be performed at the AEDC Hypervelocity Wind Tunnel No. 9 (Tunnel 9) located in Silver Spring, Maryland. Tunnel 9 provides a high speed Test & Evaluation capability for the Department of Defense.

Job Summary: Train to perform the role of an Optics Engineering Technician working with a team of engineers to operate, maintain and assemble equipment used for advanced measurements at AEDC White Oak. The qualified candidate will have strong attention to detail and time management; and the ability to work independently. The individual will be responsible for handling sensitive optical/camera equipment, applying precision paint jobs and operating computer equipment.
Job Duties: Perform routine and moderate complexity tasks under supervision or using detailed procedures such as:
Operate computer systems utilized to acquire wind tunnel data.
Responsible for assembly and troubleshooting of complex mechanical, optical and electrical components.
Assemble hardware with extremely tight tolerances with precision - performs mechanical and optical assembly and alignment.
Handles sensitive optical components and assemblies (lenses, mirrors) without damaging hardware.
Perform all tasks required to apply a precision coating to a surface of a wind tunnel model using a spray paint gun, including but not limited to mixing paint, mounting, cleaning and masking model parts, priming, painting and sanding of the coating to meet strict thickness and uniformity requirements.
Wear mask/respirator and other PPE as required.
Develop documentation including drawings and manufacturing instructions.
Ability to read and understand engineering drawings.
Troubleshoots and resolves problems with limited oversight.
Works within cross functional team to achieve overarching goals.
It is a condition of employment to wear PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) in accordance with supervisory direction and company policy.
Perform other related duties as required.
Must possess High School Diploma or equivalent
Two year technical degree and three (3) years’ experience in mechanical, electrical or instrumentation technician work or any equivalent combination of relevant education and relevant experience
Current United States Citizenship is required.
