This opportunity is being offered by National Aerospace Solutions, the team selected by the U.S. Air Force to conduct Test and Operations Sustainment at the Arnold Engineering Development Complex (AEDC), Arnold Air Force Base, Tennessee.  National Aerospace Solutions is a limited liability company comprised of Bechtel National Inc. (as lead company) and Sierra Lobo Inc. with teaming Subcontractors nLogic Inc. and Chugach Federal Solutions Inc. AEDC operates more than 55 aerodynamic and propulsion wind tunnels, rocket and turbine engine test cells, space environmental chambers, arc heaters, ballistic ranges and other specialized units located in six states. Many of the complex's test units have capabilities unmatched elsewhere in the United States; some are unique in the world. AEDC is one of three installations which are part of the Air Force Test Center (AFTC), one of six subordinate commands of the Air Force Materiel Command organization and an important national resource.

AEDC’s mission is to conduct developmental test and evaluation for the Nation through modeling, simulation, ground, and flight test.  Execution of the mission requires a large team of highly qualified and dedicated professionals from multiple technical disciplines to effectively accomplish the objectives of our test customers.

An exciting career opportunity exists for an early career Software Engineer supporting the Instrumentation and Diagnostic Tool Development Section within the Technology Development Group.  Working under the guidance of experienced engineers and software professionals, primary responsibilities for this position include designing, developing, testing, and deploying software tools, data acquisition systems, and hardware interaction within our Instrumentation and Diagnostic Development group supporting AEDC aerospace ground test facilities.
Software Engineers apply programming, design, configuration management, and testing skills to develop complex systems and applications to perform the above functions, while assisting in system/application deployment, installation, maintenance, and support.

Software Engineers apply programming, design, configuration management, and testing skills to develop complex systems and applications to perform the above functions, while assisting in system/application deployment, installation, maintenance, and support.
Job Duties:
  • Participate in one or more of the following as workload and mission needs dictate:
    • Perform software testing and verification
    • Support software configuration management practices to ensure system integrity
    • Develop and manufacture hardware in support of advanced measurement and diagnostic systems
    • Develop software tools related to the data acquisition systems used in conjunction with specially designed hardware supporting the AEDC test mission
    • Develop interfaces with hardware and physical devices such as microcontrollers and FPGAs using embedded real-time firmware, algorithms, and/or digital logic design
    • Develop programs to conduct post-test data processing
    • Design GUIs for extensive data visualization and real-time user control of hardware
    • Assist with the development, implementation, and execution of common work processes and procedures within Instrumentation and Diagnostic Development section.
    • Support preparation of engineering studies and reports
    • Use modern design, development, testing, and configuration management tools for software systems
    • Develop and maintain databases in support of Instrumentation and Diagnostic Development Section

  • Perform other related duties as required.
 
Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, or a related scientific discipline from an accredited college or university and minimum of 1 year of relevant experience
  • Current US Citizenship required.
 

 Preferred Qualifications:
  • A minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience or college coursework in software engineering including design, coding, configuration control and maintenance; strongly prefer AEDC specific experience
  • Experience with Python, C, LabVIEW, machine learning, AI, SQL, and Microsoft Access. Interest in other languages is beneficial
  • Working knowledge of version control, object-oriented software design principles, and the software development process
  • Interest in expanding knowledge to include hardware interfaces such as optical measurement systems, microcontrollers, circuit boards, finite state machines, etc.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic environment with flexibility to accomplish mission objectives
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Interest in solving complex problems efficiently and effectively
  • Active DoD Security Clearance
