Job Duties:
  • Primary duties and responsibilities will be at the AEDC White Oak Site in Silver Spring, Maryland, working as part of a small team responsible for operating and maintaining the United State Air Force’s Hypervelocity Wind Tunnel No. 9.
  • Provide facility pressure/temperature measurement, flow/valve controls, process controls, and electrical distribution with a safety focus.
  • Able to function with only general supervision and be responsible for a broad range of activities. Examples include: Plan, schedule, conduct, and/or coordinate detailed phases of system engineering work to operate, maintain, repair, improve, and modernize wind tunnel and vacuum compressor plant control systems, and electrical distribution.
  • Develop and implement strategies to increase the precision and reliability of facility operations, expand facility test capabilities, and modernize out of date systems.
  • Responsible for long term reliability, availability, and maintainability of the assigned facility control systems.
  • Perform system analyses, track system reliability, availability, and cost parameters as well as maintaining system records and configuration management and control.
  • Work closely with technicians and electricians in the field and in a hands on setting to predict performance, diagnose, and troubleshoot problems. May require working in cramped or confined spaces on occasion.
  • It is a condition of employment to wear company issued PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) in accordance with supervisory direction and company policy.
  • Performs other duties as assigned. 
Basic Qualifications:
  • A recognized Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in electrical engineering or a related scientific discipline, from an accredited college or university and 3 years of progressive and relevant experience.
  • Experience in analyzing and designing pressure/temperature instrumentation and valve control, motor control, and control panels/centers.
  • Working knowledge of analog and digital circuit design.
  • Familiarity with PLC based control systems and HMI systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and P&ID drawings.
  • Strong commitment to, and experience with, implementing safety-focused procedures, system designs, and worksite monitoring.
  • Participates in and fosters a work environment that is based upon openness, trust, communication, teamwork, empowerment, innovation, and satisfaction.
  • Technical knowledge of engineering systems, engineering calculations, applications of engineering methods and construction methods and materials, and application of computer aided engineering (CAE)/computer aided design (CAD) tools to engineering problems.
  • Willingness to learn electrical engineering practices, standards and design criteria from experienced engineers and technicians on the team.
  • Basic skill in oral and written communication.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Educational concentration and / or work experience in medium or high voltage power, large A/C motors, and power-rectifier equipment.
  • Design experience with Allen-Bradley.
  • Experience with LabVIEW.
  • Educational or work experience with Microsoft Access database and able to store, query and manipulate data.
  • Work experience in an industrial-facility setting.
  • Prior developmental experience (intern, co-op, technician, etc.) in design engineering or other relevant types of engineering such as systems startup, field engineering, or plant operations / maintenance in large industrial plants, utilities, process plants or other engineering/construction firms.
  • Interest in or experience with first aid, CPR, AED and first-responder emergency response.
