An exciting career opportunity exists for an entry-level Telecommunications Network Engineer with primary responsibility for designing, installing and operating voice, video and data communication systems.  The selected candidate will select and customize telecommunications hardware and software to meet needs of a large multi-functional industrial complex with a wide variety of technical applications.
This opportunity is being offered by National Aerospace Solutions, LLC the team selected by the U.S. Air Force to conduct Test and Operations Sustainment at the Arnold Engineering Development Complex (AEDC), Arnold Air Force Base, Tennessee.  AEDC operates more than 55 aerodynamic and propulsion wind tunnels, rocket and turbine engine test cells, space environmental chambers, arc heaters, ballistic ranges and other specialized units located in six states. Many of the complex's test units have capabilities unmatched elsewhere in the United States; some are unique in the world. AEDC is one of three installations which are part of the Air Force Test Center (AFTC), one of six subordinate commands of the Air Force Materiel Command organization and an important national resource.
 
AEDC’s mission is to conduct developmental test and evaluation for the Nation through modeling, simulation, ground and flight test.  Execution of the mission requires a large team of highly qualified and dedicated professionals from multiple technical disciplines to effectively accomplish the objectives of our test customers.

Job Duties:
Telecommunication Network Engineers at AEDC are critical to the execution of the test mission.  Specifically, duties for this entry level position include:
 
Under the guidance and direction of an experienced engineer:
  • Design and build voice, video and data communication networks, including local area networks (LANs), wide area networks (WANs), intercoms, and high resolution video.
  • Be responsible for the lifecycle of architecture from inception to working with engineering teams on implementation and supportability of design.
  • Build reusable designs and systems that promote scale, reliability, security and low life-cycle costs
  • Participate in one or more of the following:
    • Providing network security, and operations and maintenance for AEDC test and industrial standalone networks
    • Generation and maintenance of required network drawings and documentation
    • Coordination with customers, peers, operations staff, and appropriate craft personnel
    • Preparing designs, drawings and data under the supervision of a more experienced engineer
    • Preparation of engineering studies and reports
    • Preparation of labor and material estimates
    • Uses computer aided design/computer aided engineering (CAD/CAE) tools
    • System troubleshooting and return-to-service activities
    • System Verification and Validation Test Development/Execution
  • Evaluate, select, and apply standard engineering methods, techniques, procedures and criteria, using independent judgment in making networking adaptations and modifications. 
  • Review design documents of equipment manufacturers or subcontractors of a low to moderate degree of complexity, and prepare comments and recommendations.
  • It is a condition of employment to wear company issued PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) in accordance with supervisory direction and company policy.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
  
Basic Qualifications:
  • A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a relevant engineering or software technical degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Software development experience in one or more programming languages (e.g. C++, Java, Python, or Go).
  • Experience with networking protocols and technologies, including end-to-end packet flow, forwarding and routing.

  • Basic skill in oral and written communication.
 
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Application of computer aided engineering (CAE)/computer aided design (CAD) tools to engineering problems.
  • Working knowledge and experience with PC systems hardware, mass storage, graphics, networking, operating systems, and applications.
  • Proficiency in network architecture, network security, and the various fiber-optic and copper cabling systems that comprise the network infrastructure along with a familiarity with TCP/IP and network development practices.
  • Must be able to obtain Security + certification within six months of employment.
  • CCNA or related certifications a plus.
  • Knowledge and practical experience with LANs, WANs, WLANs and IPv6.
  • Active DoD security clearance
