An exciting career opportunity exists for early career Computer-Aided Designers with primary responsibility for developing and maintaining:
  • Piping layout drawings and schematics for liquid and gaseous fluid systems
  • Single line drawings for low, medium, and high voltage power distribution systems
  • Facility and building layouts
  • Electrical drawings for process controls of facility & test systems
  • Machined Parts
CAD operators will apply their software skills with commercial drafting programs to work with engineers and create designs for new systems and facilities, as well as modifications and upgrades to existing systems and facilities.
 
This opportunity is being offered by National Aerospace Solutions, LLC the team selected by the U.S. Air Force to conduct Test and Operations Sustainment at the Arnold Engineering Development Complex (AEDC), Arnold Air Force Base, Tennessee.  AEDC operates more than 55 aerodynamic and propulsion wind tunnels, rocket and turbine engine test cells, space environmental chambers, arc heaters, ballistic ranges and other specialized units located in six states. Many of the complex's test units have capabilities unmatched elsewhere in the United States; some are unique in the world. AEDC is one of three installations which are part of the Air Force Test Center (AFTC), one of six subordinate commands of the Air Force Materiel Command organization and an important national resource.
 
AEDC’s mission is to conduct developmental test and evaluation for the Nation through modeling, simulation, and ground & flight test.  Execution of the mission requires a large team of highly qualified and dedicated professionals from multiple technical disciplines to effectively accomplish the objectives of our test customers.
 
Job Duties:
Drafter CAD Operator II
Under general supervision, and according to established standards and procedures, prepares engineering drawings from rough sketches, marked-up prints, or from general engineering and design information. Familiar or recurring work is assigned in general terms. Unfamiliar assignments include information on methods, procedures, sources of information, and precedents to follow. Simple revisions to existing drawings or computer models may be assigned with a verbal explanation of the desired results. More complex revisions are produced from sketches, computer models or specifications that clearly depict the desired product. 
 
Drafter CAD Operator III
Independently prepares complete sets of complex drawings or computer models that include multiple views, detail drawings, and assembly drawings. Drawings or models include complex design features that require considerable drafting skill to visualize and portray. The Draft/CAD Operator works from sketches, computer models, and verbal information supplied by an engineer, architect, or designer to determine the most appropriate views, detail drawings, and supplementary information needed to complete assignments. This operator selects required information from computer programs, and internet sites, precedents, manufacturers' catalogs, and technical guides. This operator independently resolves most of the problems encountered. Supervisor or design originator may suggest methods of approach or provide advice on unusually difficult problems
 
Typical assignments may include:
  • Prepare complete engineering drawings or diagrams delineating equipment, engineered systems, structures and plant arrangements with sufficient detail in drawings to guide manufacturers in developing shop drawings and to guide construction in their work.
  • Work under direction in the graphic preparation of 2-D drawings or 3-D CAD design models of average complexity based on information from others.
  • Develop complete engineering drawings from information provided verbally, on sketches or in notes; plans related drawing sequence to convey complete engineering information.
  • Make basic mathematical calculations related to the group’s drawing responsibilities.
  • Prepare “as-built” drawings to reflect changes to designated work during construction, operations.
  • Review and check design models, drawings and design documents prepared by others in the group and by material suppliers, as assigned.
  • Prepare bulk material quantity takeoffs and material requisitions for materials applicable to the group.
  • Work with engineers and other designers in the overall assignment to coordinate designs.
  • Answer questions from client or construction group on design for assigned responsibility.
  • Compile, maintain and access job drawing files, records, and drawing controls, as instructed.
  • It is a condition of employment to wear company issued PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) in accordance with supervisory direction and company policy.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
 
Basic Qualifications:
  • Vocational school training/certification or two years of college with courses relevant to drafting and/or design and two to four years of progressive and relevant drafting and drawing experience.
  • Basic computer skills such as use of Microsoft Office products, file naming, and computer folder structures.
  • Sound knowledge of CAD design and drafting techniques, engineering drawing, graphic arts, reading of drawings and reproduction methods used by the group.
  • Knowledge of the application of engineering and construction materials related to the group’s design responsibilities.
  • General knowledge of technical responsibilities of other groups associated with the total design effort.
  • Skill in defining tasks within a drafting assignment for completion by others.
 
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with Autodesk software, particularly AutoCAD and Inventor
  • Experience with 3D modeling
