Job Description:
NAS Technology Group is seeking a highly-qualified mechanical engineer to serve as an Arc Heater and High-Temperature Calorimetry Technology Engineer.
 
Job Duties:
  • Primarily support Hypersonic/Space & Missile mission area by evaluating, selecting, and applying standard engineering methods, techniques, procedures and criteria, using independent judgment in making adaptations and modifications. 
  • Perform work which requires heat transfer and surface temperature measurement techniques in the manufacturing, calibration, and application of high temperature flow measurement devices.
  • Collaborate with external entities (e.g. universities) to assess state-of-the-art heat transfer measurement techniques.
  • Function within a precision laboratory environment which produces gauges, thermocouples, and other heat transfer measurement devices which will be used in aerospace ground test facilities.
  • Support test planning by recommending appropriate gauge, design gauge mounting and cabling, and provide uncertainty estimates and data acquisition advice.
  • Pursue identified arc heater test facility enhancements and technologies that extend facility capability, reliability, and availability.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in written and verbal communication, including creating and delivering presentations.
  • It is a condition of employment to wear company issued PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) in accordance with supervisory direction and company policy.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
 
Basic Qualifications:
  • B.S. degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering from an accredited engineering school plus three to six (3-6) years of progressive and relevant heat transfer, heat flux, measurement, and analysis techniques. Additional relevant education in engineering may be substituted for experience.
  • Experience with high-temperature gas flow measurement applications and state-of-the-art techniques.
 
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with advanced calorimetry techniques
  • Experience with data acquisition and post-processing of experimental data
  • Experience with MATLAB/Simulink
  • Experience with LabView data acquisition and controls
  • Experience with aerospace ground test facilities, including industrial infrastructure
