After a period of 6 to 12 months, a permanent office will be established in West Lafayette, IN as a remote design and engineering office for Arnold Air Force Base.
This work involves practical application of engineering principles of electrical equipment sizing, troubleshooting, circuit protection and arc flash analysis of low and medium voltage equipment. These principles are applied through the use of engineering tools including generating risk assessments, work instructions, and other engineering documentation in support of testing.
As part of a multi-disciplinary team, electrical engineers’ interface with other teams across the complex including controls, instrumentation, design, facility data analysis, and modeling and simulation engineers to ensure reliable operation and ability to meet future test needs.
They perform as part of a cadre of mechanical and electrical engineers whose job it is to oversee installation, operation, sustainment, and troubleshooting of major equipment and systems such as large motors, compressors, electrical switchgear, over-current protection, transformers, PLCs, relays, and/or solid state variable frequency systems that are needed to reliably provide test conditions to the test facilities.
Engineers who enjoy this type of work typically have some interest or experience with large electric motors that drive huge air compressors, hydraulic pumps, electrical switchgear, over-current protection, transformers, PLCs, relays, and/or solid state variable frequency systems.
